Southbound on I-95, Ct to NC

Getting out of the house and on the road last Saturday was tough. It felt like jumping through a plate glass window, or being born, or re-entering Earth’s gravity after space travel. Transition is painful for me. I really don’t see how people with two houses do it all the time.

Building the new Tappan Zee Bridge
We finally got on the road Saturday morning at 10:40, crossing the Hudson on the Tappan Zee Bridge, taking the Garden State Parkway to the New Jersey Turnpike, and crossing over the DelMemBr. We drove from the top of Maryland to the bottom, finally deciding to take BOTH cats on the boat instead of leaving one in St. Mary’s with Lauren. Whether this was the right decision or not, we’ll know in a few weeks.

Not happy travelers, but pretty good sports.

We stopped for the night just past the Virginia line in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and got some great barbecue! UNC was playing in the NCAA men’s basketball final game so the whole town was at Ralph’s getting their barbecue before it started. Unfortunately, UNC lost, but I won the family basketball pool in both the men’s and women’s tournaments! Since I was the only one to do a women’s pool, I had no rivals, and once again, the UConn women won! HOORAY! When we return I can write my own name on the trophy for both categories.
