Key Overboard

We had a lovely day in Key West yesterday, but I want to tell you the end of the story first. We got back to the marina around 7 and dinghyed back out to the boat. We always tie the dinghy on sideways at the stern, so I took the line and tied on the front of the dinghy. Brian tossed the rear line onto Pearl and as he did, the long cord that is attached to the outboard “key” got caught and he tossed it right into the water!!!!!!!!!!!!! He did not get angry. We tied off the dinghy, he put on his swimming suit and a facemask and jumped overboard to see what he could see. But the bottom was all silt and the key was definitely gone forever.

It emphasized to both of us how fast and completely something on a boat can go so wrong.

It’s an electric motor and the “key” is just a magnet, so in the long run, the Torqeedo people in Europe told him that a magnet for a whiteboard would do the job. So he’s rowing to shore today to walk somewhere to get a magnet.

In any case …

I AM SO GLAD THAT I DID NOT THROW THE KEY OVERBOARD!
