The ferries are waking up and ready to start their day. Their
names are Arni J Richter, Robert T Noble, Eyrarbakki, Washington, and Island
Cruiser. It takes about seven minutes to load 12 - 15 cars, trucks, and even an
RV. A man takes the ticket from the driver and points him to a spot. The people
get out and ride on top in the wind or inside the salon. The ferry I’ve been
watching departed at EXACTLY 6:45 for the 30 minute crossing to the top of Wisconsin’s
Door Peninsula. One had arrived earlier with a big propane truck and a gas
truck aboard. Yesterday the last ferry brought over a truck filled with gravel,
then the crew hosed off the ferry with fresh water from the lake and closed it
down for the night.
