Richards Landing to Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario

Monday, August 3

The weather is giving us a glimpse of what it can be like here on the Great Lakes in late Autumn. It’s cold, it’s windy and it’s overcast. But it’s August!

We walked into town and had our first, last and only serving of poutine - french fries covered in gravy with melted cheese on top. Yes, it was good, and yes, we felt like blobs afterwards.

During a break in the rain, an outdoor wedding took place here at the marina. We saw the bride and groom exchange their vows overlooking the harbor. The bride’s father owns the marina and arranged to have FIREWORKS around 9:30 when it got dark! They were right over our boat.

The water here is green, not sapphire blue like in the North Channel, and it is about two feet higher than normal. We’ve met boaters who traveled during summers when the water levels were lower than normal, and I think that presented more difficult challenges.
